<p>I currently still have the Timp 4 which I love.</p>

<p>For long-distance running this is my favorite shoe:&nbsp; lightweight, wide toe box, great traction for trails/snow, breathable,&nbsp; zero drop, but it still has enough cushion so your feet arn't totally destroyed after a 50-mile ultra marathon.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The one downside I dislike about the Timp 4 is the lip which is sharp and tends to dig into your ankle if you haven't built up a callous. Timp 5 fixed this issue.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Dr. Nate&rsquo;s Thoughts: </strong>As a chiropractor and nutritionist, quality is of the utmost importance to me. It is very difficult finding an energy gel that is made with real food and doesn&rsquo;t contain artificial colors, artificial flavors, and other junk. So far this is the best I have found with clean ingredients, good flavors, and a high-calorie count. The consistency is that of apple sauce which is nice when on the run.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>During a long-distance run, you have to get your calories in period. If you don&rsquo;t, you will lose energy quickly and won&rsquo;t be able to finish. Spring Nutrition Energy gels are a lifesaver. Each packet has a high amount of calories packed in a small pack that tastes great. They have several different flavors. I recommend taking a few different flavors on your run to keep things interesting. Nothing worse than needing the calories but feeling like you can&rsquo;t take another bite because the flavor will make you gag. Awesome Sauce is my favorite but the other flavors are good too.&nbsp; During racing,&nbsp; typically I try to consume 3 packets/10 miles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I have the Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire. When I'm ready to upgrade this is what I want because of the solar charging. Garmin is top-of-the-line when it comes to running watches and I am extremely happy with mine.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Don&rsquo;t do an Ultra Marathon without these. </strong><strong>These poles are lifesavers! </strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>My first 50-mile ultra marathon had a grueling 12,000 feet of elevation gain, meaning there were points when racing I felt like I was going straight up and straight down. These poles are ultra light (important for long runs. You don&rsquo;t want to be caring any more weight than needed); strong (I can put my full weight to pull me up and down hills); and compact (they fold up easily). </strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>During this 50-mile race I ran with them in my hands the whole time with no problem, but I could have easily folded them up into my vest if needed.&nbsp; Having good poles can help you stabilize and pull yourself up a hill or slow you down descending a steep hill. They helped prevent me from knee and ankle injuries multiple times.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p><strong>When training I got an inexpensive &ldquo;light&rdquo; pair of poles on Amazon. This was a huge mistake and a waste of money. Invest in a quality light pair. You will not regret it.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p><strong>The goal in a long run (26+ miles) is you want to carry as little extra weight as possible. I have been extremely happy with the Ultraspire running vest for several reasons:</strong></p>
<p><strong>1. Light and breathable. It fits well and doesn&rsquo;t feel like you are wearing a bulky vest.</strong></p>
<p><strong>2. Water carrying capability (4 water pouch areas). Initially, I was concerned about the water in the back bouncing and hitting my back. When you get the right vest fit, it doesn&rsquo;t rub the back or create bruising.&nbsp; During the race, I kept water in the front right and back right pouches and nutrition/electrolytes in the left two pouches. Make sure to get Ultraspire SoftFlask Hydration with the straw for the front two pockets. This makes it easy to run and drink at the same time.</strong></p>
<p><strong>3. Storage:&nbsp; It doesn&rsquo;t look like it but there is a lot of storage space for long-distance runs. There is a large back pouch for bandages/KT tape, extra nutrition, an emergency blanket, etc. The front right has a small pouch for salt and Chapstick. The front left has a pocket for your phone and the sides have room where I put Spring Nutrition packets.</strong></p>

<p><strong>As a chiropractor, I know the extreme importance of good shoes. If your feet are off, it throws off your whole gait (how you walk) which leads to back, feet, and knee issues.&nbsp; I started running with a nice pair of Nike shoes but when I entered the Ultra Marathon running I knew I needed to step it up.</strong></p>
